Explore Birmingham: Discover Birmingham’s secret green roofs - various buildings
Event Description:
Join us as we visit a variety of Birmingham buildings, giving you the opportunity to witness first hand how global warming is affecting the design of the urban environment.
Come along and discover Birmingham’s secret rooftop world. Join Dr Adam Bates on a tour of the city's green roofs and uncover a potential sustainable solution that is growing above our heads!
‘Green roof’ is a general term for any roof covered with a growth substrate with plants growing on it, and as such, they vary enormously in their type and function.
The roofs provide huge environmental benefits, such as:
• the thermal insulation of buildings
• increased roof longevity
• urban cooling
• improved urban aesthetics
• reduced roof run-off
• habitat creation
View these roofs for yourself as Dr Adam Bates talks you through their various uses and benefits.
You are welcome to bring your own lunch.
It should be noted that the tour includes a short ladder to get onto the roof and a small flight of stairs.
